Instructions

Step‑by‑Step Instructions

  • In a large pot, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, carrots, and celery, sautéing until they soften, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add 1 pound of ground beef and 1 pound of ground pork to the pot. Cook until well browned, about 8-10 minutes, breaking them apart as they cook.
  • Pour in 1 cup of white wine, scraping the bottom of the pot. Let the wine simmer for about 5 minutes to reduce.
  • Stir in 2 cups of crushed canned tomatoes, 1 tablespoon of tomato paste, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Cover and simmer for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) while the sauce simmers.
  • In your baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce, followed by 3 lasagna noodles, a layer of béchamel, and 1 cup of grated Parmigiano-Reggiano. Repeat layers until ingredients are used, finishing with béchamel and cheese.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil in the last 10 minutes.
  • Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For optimal flavor, consider making your béchamel sauce from scratch and enjoying fresh herbs in the meat sauce.
