  • Season the chicken breasts generously with salt and pepper on both sides. Let sit for about 5 minutes.
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat for 1-2 minutes until shimmering.
  • Add the seasoned chicken breasts to the skillet and cook for 6-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  • Remove chicken from skillet and keep warm.
  • In the same skillet, add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  • Pour in heavy cream, stirring to combine, and let simmer on low heat for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add chopped fresh basil leaves and Italian seasoning to the cream sauce, stir well and simmer for another 1-2 minutes.
  • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce, stirring gently until melted, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Return cooked chicken to the skillet, nestling in creamy basil sauce, and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  • If desired, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.

Notes

For a lighter sauce, replace some heavy cream with chicken broth. Stir mozzarella in gently over low heat to ensure a smooth texture.
