Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Dredge the steak in a mixture of flour, salt, and pepper. Coat evenly.
  • Heat oil in a skillet and brown the steak on all sides for 3-4 minutes. Set aside.
  • Sauté the chopped onion in the same skillet for about 5 minutes until translucent.
  • Add beef broth, diced tomatoes, carrots, celery, bell pepper, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and thyme. Simmer for 3-5 minutes.
  • Return the browned steak to the skillet and simmer on low heat for approximately 1.5 hours.
  • If desired, thicken gravy by stirring the cornstarch slurry into the skillet during the last 10 minutes.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. For longer storage, freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat gently with a splash of beef broth to retain moisture.
