Preparation Steps

  • Prepare your work surface by lining it with parchment paper.
  • Combine granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and water in a medium saucepan, stirring gently.
  • Heat the mixture over medium heat until it boils, then stop stirring.
  • Simmer until it reaches the hard-ball stage (250°F/121°C), about 5-7 minutes.
  • Let the mixture cool slightly, then stir in peppermint extract and red food coloring.
  • Allow to cool until safe to handle, approximately 10-15 minutes.
  • Dust your hands and work surface with powdered sugar before shaping the candies.
  • Shape the cooled candy into ropes and cut them into 1-inch pieces.
  • Dust each piece with powdered sugar and place them on parchment paper to set.
  • Allow candies to cool completely and harden for at least 2 hours at room temperature.
  • Store your Soft Christmas Peppermints in an airtight container.
