Preparation

  • Prep the fresh vegetables: shred lettuce, soak red onion, slice tomato, and drain pepperoncini.

  • Add oregano, optional basil, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and sugar to the dressing, whisk to combine.

Assembling

  • In the bowl, combine the shredded lettuce, onion, and pepperoncini with the dressing and mix well.
  • Toast the roll with butter or olive oil under a broiler until golden.
  • Layer provolone cheese evenly on the toasted roll, then melt under the broiler.
