Step-by-Step Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, basil, egg, and breadcrumbs. Mix thoroughly and shape into meatballs.
  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs for 5-7 minutes. Transfer to a baking dish.
  • Pour marinara sauce over the meatballs and sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top.
  • Roll out puff pastry sheets. Cover the meatball mixture with puff pastry and tuck edges into the dish.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool for 5 minutes before inverting on a platter.
  • Garnish with fresh basil leaves and serve warm.

Notes

Brown meatballs in batches for even cooking. Use fresh herbs for added flavor. Keep puff pastry cold until ready to use. Coat meatballs well with sauce to avoid dryness.
