  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the pre-made pie crust according to the package instructions until golden brown.
  • In a medium saucepan, whisk together granulated sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt.
  • Gradually add 3 cups of milk to the dry mixture, stirring until smooth. Heat over medium and bring to a gentle boil, stirring constantly until thickened.
  • In a separate bowl, beat 4 egg yolks and temper them with a small amount of the hot chocolate mixture before adding back to the saucepan. Cook for 2 more minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and butter until melted and glossy.
  • Fold in coconut and pecans until evenly distributed.
  • Pour the chocolate filling into the cooled pie crust, leveling with a spatula.
  • Sprinkle chocolate chips on top, pressing them slightly into the filling.
