Step‑by‑Step Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Beat 4 room temperature egg whites on medium speed until foamy (about 2 minutes).
  • Add ¼ teaspoon of cream of tartar and ½ teaspoon of salt; beat until soft peaks form (2-3 minutes).
  • Gradually add 1 cup of granulated sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while increasing mixer speed to high. Beat until stiff peaks form (5-7 minutes).
  • Gently fold in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract.
  • Transfer the meringue into a piping bag and pipe small mounds on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 90 minutes; then turn off the oven and leave the meringues inside to cool for 1-2 hours.
  • Sprinkle crushed peppermint candies on top of cooled meringues before serving.

Notes

Ensure egg whites are at room temperature for better volume. Clean equipment to avoid grease when whipping egg whites.
