  • Cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract until combined.
  • In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet mixture, mixing on low until just combined. Fold in red food coloring and vinegar.
  • Drop cookie dough onto prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 10 to 12 minutes; edges should be set while centers look slightly underbaked.
  • Let cookies cool on baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  • Prepare cream cheese frosting by beating together cream cheese and butter until smooth, then add powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
