Step-by-Step Instructions for Chocolate Turtle Cake

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing them.
  • Mix the dry ingredients: combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
  • Add the wet ingredients: mix in eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth.
  • Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well-blended, noting that it may be thin.
  • Divide the batter into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Cool the cakes in the pans for about 10 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Layer the cakes: place one cake layer on a plate, spread caramel sauce and sprinkle pecans on top.
  • Top with the second cake layer, repeating the caramel and pecan addition.
  • Drizzle chocolate glaze over the top of the cake and allow it to set before slicing.
  • Serve and enjoy the delicious combination of chocolate, caramel, and pecans.
